Common Causes of Track Damage
Tracks bend most often from an accidental impact — a car bumper, a stored item leaning against it, or a door forced past an obstruction. A broken spring or cable can also pull the door unevenly and stress the track over time, and worn rollers riding rough inside the track accelerate wear on both parts.
Signs Your Track Needs Attention
Watch for a visible gap or kink in the track, a door that binds or grinds at the same spot every cycle, or rollers that look like they're riding at an angle rather than straight inside the channel.

We inspect the full length of both tracks, check mounting brackets for looseness, and realign or replace the damaged section. If rollers are worn, we'll recommend roller replacement at the same time so the door runs smoothly rather than wearing the new track section prematurely.
Vertical and Horizontal Track: What Each Does
Your door rides on two sets of track. The vertical tracks run up each side of the opening, and the horizontal tracks curve back along the ceiling. The rollers on each section of the door ride inside them. Both sides need to be parallel, straight and firmly fastened. If one side is bent, loose or out of line, the rollers bind, the door shakes or scrapes, and the opener has to work harder to move it.
If the Door Comes Off the Track

Preventing Track Problems
- Keep bikes, bins and shelving away from the tracks, especially near the bottom, where bumpers can hit them.
- Don’t hang anything from the horizontal tracks.
- Keep the tracks clean and dry. They don’t need grease, which only collects dust.
- Have new grinding or scraping checked early. A yearly tune-up includes a track and roller check.
